The Original ‘one and only’ Tim Plewman is back ‘Defending the Caveman’
The ‘only original’ master of ‘Defending the Caveman’ is back from standing ovations in Australia and Las Vegas and is now touring Southern Africa.
Caveman still holds the record as the longest running non-musical comedy of all time on Broadway. What more can be said about this wonderful show that so humorously exposes the hunter and gatherer in us all and has played to over a million people?
Tim Plewman’s way of managing to ‘capture’ his audience in his hands is palpable. It is an incredible performance with one person on stage giving of his all. You can laugh one moment and be digging your partner in his/her ribs because of the truth of the comments, the next. All the tales ring home in such an incredible way. It is extraordinarily funny and worth every cent to spend an evening laughing which is as one knows is ‘medicine for the soul’!
Labelled by critics as the best date night comedy, Plewman puts new life and energy into ‘Defending the Caveman’. Updated, upgraded and totally unloadable to today’s world of tweets, selfies and six million Facebook friends, this production is still a hilarious, affectionate and insightful comedy that explains why men and women see the world so differently, and will have you looking at your partner with new eyes.
“I am going to bring my wife here to see it”, said Geoffrey Matenji from SAfm radio with tears rolling down his cheeks from laughter.
Notes to Editors. Read what journalists had to say:
“Laugh, I nearly died! This play is not an exercise in soul-searching, it’s a belly laugh night out with similarly bemused friends” says Len Ashton (Weekend Argus)
“Here is the artistry of the human heart conveyed in a language that can only make you laugh till you cry.” – Mary Jordan, Arts Journalist
“Hilarious! The perfect date comedy.” – WOR Radio Network
“In a tour de force performance, Plewman’s is a gem in a giggle a minute comedy.” – Garalt MacLiam (The Star)
TIM PLEWMAN
Tim has become one of the most sought after actors in South Africa, equally at home in drama or comedy. He is a dancer, humourist, director, writer and producer. From his first leading role in 1978, in the comedy, “Happy Birthday”, Tim has remained at the very top of the acting world for over 30 years with numerous awards and unique achievements that set him apart from the rest.
He has starred in such diverse comedies as “Two Into One” (Fleur du Cap Award Best Actor), “Doubles” (Vita Comedy Award for Best Actor), “Heel Against the Head” (Vita Award Best Director) and of course, the play he is most remembered for, “Defending the Caveman” (Vita Award for Best Comedy Actor), which re-wrote theatre history by breaking all SA show records. Tim decided to hang up his caveman skins after 9 ½ yrs and 1544 sold out performances.
Tim has also starred in numerous musicals, three of his favourites being, “Snoopy!!!”, “Tom Foolery” and “Singin’ in the Rain”. As a writer, he has penned some memorable plays like “Grin & Bare It”, “Breakfast with Dad”, and “The Insatiables”, which won the Best Play of the Year, SA Comedy Awards. In addition, Tim has written such TV series as The Carruthers Brothers with Bill Flynn and Pure Plewman for MNET. He is a prolific voice-over artist and, together with his wife, Cathy, has a highly successful production company which has produced 18 theatre and over 160 corporate productions and videos.
This past June 2013, Tim was acclaimed for his tour de force performance in the one-man play, “The Last Moustache”, written by Greg Viljoen, performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and the Market Theatre in Johannesburg. It is the story of an actor forced to play a Hitler double during the last weeks of WWII.
Never one to sit on his laurels, Tim has also written a new play and a book;
The play, “Designer Genes XXL – The Return of the Caveman”, is a tongue in cheek look at relationships, helping to unravel the twists and turns of the double helix in men’s complex ‘dance’ with women.
The book, classically titled “Fitness for Old Farts” and published by Random Struik, rocketed to No 10 on the best sellers list in SA within the first month of hitting the bookshelves. Tim is now actively doing motivational speaking engagements countrywide on the subject of fitness for old farts, and inspiring the over 50’s to regain fitness, flexibility and fun by showing them how to roll back the years and find new shape and vitality.
Now, in 2017, Tim is busy writing a new play penning the story of the life of legendary boxing champion, Brian Mitchell, a story ranging from championship highs and poignant lows, as Tim captures this amazing legend’s true life experiences. Watch for “Road Warrior” -- to be launched at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg this coming October.
