Sun MVG membership Terms and conditions

1. WHAT IS MVG?

Sun MVG is a tiered loyalty programme ("MVG") that is exclusive to participating Sun International gaming and hospitality partners ("Sun International"). View the complete list of participating Sun International hotels and casinos.

2. WHO CAN BE A MEMBER?

2.1. MVG membership is FREE and limited to one per person. MVG Members must be at least 18 years old (“Member/s”).

2.2. Excluded persons (e.g. self-excluded, refused access to name a few) and juristic persons are prohibited from participation in MVG. The aforegoing persons shall forfeit any Benefits, Loyalty Points and Tier Credits which may have accrued to them.

2.3. Sun International staff are excluded from participating in MVG.

2.4. To sign-up to be a Member, the following information and documentation will be required:

*Official identification; *contact details; *physical address; *source of income; *employment status; *job title (collectively referred to as “sign-up information”).

3. HOW DOES MVG WORK?

MVG consists of Loyalty Points, Tier Credits and Benefits:

3.1.  Loyalty Points-

a. MVG affords its Members the ability to earn Casino and Leisure Points when they visit, play, and stay at Sun International (collectively referred to as “Loyalty Points”). 

b. Loyalty Points give Members access to non-cashable rewards, offers, discounts and other benefits dependent on the Members Tier Status ("the Benefits").

c. Members will earn both Casino and Leisure Points when paying for goods and services at Sun International.

d. Loyalty Points are earned by presentation of the Members MVG Card at participating Sun International outlets.

e. Whilst Loyalty Points are redeemable at third-party partner establishments, they cannot be earned.

f. Casino Points can be used for playback in the casino on slot machines, table games or on SunBet.

g. Leisure Points are used towards the cost of accommodation, food, beverage, entertainment and product purchases in both Sun International and third-party partners.

h. Leisure Points can be used towards 10% (ten percent) – 20% (twenty percent) gratuities. Members cannot be given cash in lieu of a gratuity.

i. Loyalty Points awarded for hospitality and leisure spend shall only be awarded/ calculated on transactions from R100.00 (one hundred Rand) or greater on the nett value, excluding tourism levy, VAT and gratuities.

3.2 Tier Credits-

a. MVG also affords its Members the ability to earn tier credits from gaming and leisure activities at Sun International (“Tier Credits”).  

b. The more Tier Credits Members earn, the greater their Tier Status. The greater their Tier Status the better the Benefit.

3.3. Loyalty Points and Tier Credits are valid for 12 (twelve) months from the time they are earned by the Member after which, the Loyalty Points and Tier Credits will expire and cannot be carried over. This means that should the value of Tier Credits not be maintained or decrease in such 12 (twelve) month period, a Members Tier Status could be affected.

3.4. Upgrading of Members to the next Tier Status is actioned on an individual basis only once the required number Tier Credits have been earned.

3.5. Sun International is not obligated to alert Members of expiring Loyalty Points or Tier Credits.

3.6. Loyalty Points and Tier Credits are determined on Members' actual spend on the room rate, food, and beverage only. It will exclude all taxes, levies, and gratuities.

3.7. Loyalty Points and Tier Credits are earned during gaming activities by the Member by estimations of average bets placed and length of play recorded on our gaming systems.

3.8. Reasonable steps will be taken to award Members Loyalty Points and Tier Credits for gaming activities on a near-real-time basis or after the outcome of the bet has been determined (as the case may be).

3.9. For leisure spend, Loyalty Points and Tier Credits may be awarded to Members within 24 (twenty-four) hours of full settlement of the costs incurred.

3.10. The Member must ensure that their MVG account number appears on room folios and/or sales dockets in order for their Benefits to accrue. Should the MVG account number not be included on room folios and/or sales dockets at the time of the transaction, the Benefit will be forfeited. 

4. HOW DO THE LOYALTY POINTS AND BENEFITS WORK?

4.1. Benefits cannot be used in conjunction with any other Sun International discount, loyalty programme, corporate rate, corporate booking, third party agent bookings or promotional offer unless otherwise advertised.

4.2. Sun International has an affiliation to Global Hotel Alliance (“GHA”). GHA is a global network of partnerships in which benefits and rewards are determined by mutual agreement with relevant stakeholders, therefore not controlled or managed by Sun International.

Sun International afford both MVG and GHA to operate at participating properties, however, should a Member enjoy membership in both MVG and GHA, the Member would need to decide which Programme they would like to apply at the time of booking, as both Programmes cannot be applied for the accumulation or use of points. Such choice of applicable Programme cannot be changed at check-in.

Whilst both programmes offer several similar benefits, there is a difference in applicable rate discounts. Furthermore, Members are not able to earn rewards on both Programmes, therefore should accommodation be booked on the MVG discount, the Member cannot accrue points on GHA and vice versa.

Members may utilise GHA or MVG Benefits interchangeably at the participating Sun International Property excluding accommodation as detailed above.

4.3. Loyalty Points (including Tier Credits) will not be earned on conferences, group/ party bookings, events or third-party agent bookings.

4.4. Accommodation Benefit:

a. Affords Members discounts off the nett published room rate. The discount percentage varies based on the Members Tier Status.

b. Is subject to availability, Sun International’s standard booking terms, conditions and the Member physically presenting themself with official identification and MVG Card upon check-in.

c. Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Tier Members may reserve a maximum of 2 (two) rooms per night, per Member, for a maximum of 3 (three) consecutive nights at the applicable Tier Status rate.

d. Silver Tier Members qualify for ESCAPES/ SUNSCAPES/ a discount of 10% (ten percent) off BAR whichever is most favourable at the time of booking.

e. Any additional rooms required can be booked on ESCAPES, SUNSCAPES or BAR rates.

f. ESCAPES and SUNSCAPES rates = Publicly available promotional campaign rates.

g. BAR = Best Available Rate which is the lowest publicly advertised rate available at that time, for each date.

h. Benefits for accommodation are awarded on the nett value of the accommodation excluding VAT, and tourism levy. Any charges that the Members accrue to their room account shall not be accounted for in terms of the Benefit. The Benefit would only apply if the good(s) or service is obtained directly from the participating outlet.

i. Shall only be applicable to limited suites at Sun City, and upon request only.

j. Notwithstanding any quotation or confirmation provided by Sun International, in the event of a contravention or incorrect application of the Accommodation Benefit, Sun International reserves its right to either revoke such Benefit or apply BAR to such booking.

4.5. The discount Benefit for food and beverage is valid at all Sun International managed restaurants and bars. This Benefit is available to the Member and extendable to 7 (seven) guests.

4.6. The free parking Benefit does not apply to The Table Bay

4.7. Sun City Resort Day Visitor Parking Benefit (which excludes entry to the Valley of Waves) shall apply as follows:

  • Diamond Tier Member: free entry for the Member and 3 (three) guests.
  • Platinum Tier Member: free entry for the Member and 1 (one) guest.
  • Gold Tier Member: free entry for the Member.
  • Silver Tier Member: Member pays R75.00 (seventy-five Rand).

4.8. Member birthday Benefits are awarded at the beginning of the Member’s birth-month. This Benefit shall only be valid and redeemable, once-off, in the birth-month. An email address or valid mobile number is required to activate this Benefit. Member birthday Benefits are only awarded if sign-up to MVG is at least one month prior to the Members birthday.

4.9. Although Loyalty Points are non-cashable, it is expressed in Rands for the sake of comparable use.

4.10. Leisure Points cannot be used to:

a. purchase goods for the intention of use and/or consumption offsite; or

b. purchase goods in bulk (i.e a carton of cigarettes).

4.9. Certain Benefits may be subject to qualifying criteria. The onus shall always rest with the Member to ensure that they are aware of such qualifying criteria.

4.10. Members can use their discretion in terms of when they would like to make use of their Benefits.

4.11. Benefits may not be sold or given away. If for any reason, Members are unable to use the Benefit or it was not received timeously despite reasonable attempts to contact the Member via the contact information provided by the Member or if the Benefit has expired, then the Benefit will be forfeited and cannot be claimed afterwards. (Benefits are not transferable).

4.12. Loyalty Points earned via Linked MVG Cards shall accrue to the primary Members card and may only be used by the Member.

4.13. A complete list of Benefits per Tier Status, which is subject to change without notification, is available on the Benefits and Rewards page.

5. MVG CARDS

5.1. MVG Cards remain the property of Sun International. The amount of cards that a MVG member may have active depends on your MVG Status:

  1. Diamond members may have a total of 4 active cards
  2. Platinum members may have a total of 3 active cards
  3. Gold members may have a total of 2 active cards
  4. Silver members can have a total of 1 active card

A fee may be levied for replacement or secondary MVG cards depending on your tier ("Linked MVG Cards").

5.2. MVG Cards are PIN enabled. However, the responsibility to protect the MVG Card/s rests with the Member to prevent the loss of Benefits, Value or Loyalty Points which are linked to the MVG Card (inclusive of Linked MVG Cards).

5.3. The use of Linked MVG Cards is subject to Sun International’s discretion, especially during peak periods.

6. POPI AND MVG

6.1. Members consent to being included in Sun International's marketing mailing list, however, such Members may elect to opt out of receiving marketing correspondence by using the appropriate links in emails to unsubscribe or by replying STOP to a SMS or using other means offered by Sun International to exercise this right, including but not limited to, requesting such opt-out at Sun International. Members undertake to notify Sun International of any errant marketing communications received following their opt-out request, bearing in mind that opt-outs may only become effective after a reasonable period following the request.

6.2. To enable Sun International to provide premium Benefits through MVG, it requires up-to-date and correct personal information of its Members. Personal information includes the prescribed information falling within the definitions of personal or special personal information as set out in the POPI Act, 2013 ("Protected Personal Information"). The Protected Personal Information of Members which Sun International may process includes the following:

  • sign-up information;
  • Information regarding whether Members are politically exposed, or prominent influential persons;
  • Preferences and opinions.

6.3. Members give express consent to Sun International to obtain, process, and further process their Protected Personal Information for any lawful purposes relating to the Members' participation in MVG, including to:

a. Provide Benefits;

b. Verify the identity of Members;

c. Process Loyalty Points and Tier Credits of Members;

d. Monitor and analyse conduct and use on Members' MVG Cards, Linked MVG Cards, and profile for fraud, compliance and other risk-related purposes;

e. Carry out statistical and other analyses to identify potential markets and trends and/or develop new products and services;

f. To carry out certain marketing activities as set out in clause 6.1 above

6.4. Furthermore, Members agree and consent to Sun International retaining their Protected Personal Information for such periods as Sun International may determine necessary for its legitimate business security and record-keeping purposes. Specifically, Members also give express consent to Sun International to disclose their Protected Personal Information:

a. To any person that provides services (which services may include verifying, updating, and processing Protected Personal Information) to Sun International or acts as Sun International's agent or to whom Sun International has transferred or propose to transfer any of its rights and duties in respect of MVG Memberships (some of these people may be located outside the Republic of South Africa), and share Members' Protected Personal Information with Sun International's service providers, locally and outside the Republic of South Africa, as necessary. Sun International may ask service providers to agree to its privacy policies if they need to access any Protected Personal Information to carry out their services.

b. To Sun International's legal advisors, financial advisors, auditors, or a competent court in legal proceedings.

c. To any entity which is part of Sun International's group of companies for purposes related to Members' participation in MVG.

6.5. Protected Personal Information may be updated by Members online (where applicable) or by visiting Sun International. The access to and deletion of Protected Personal Information is subject to processes set out in Sun International's PAIA manual, which is available at suninternational.com/investors/governance.

6.6. Members accept that Sun International takes reasonable and practical steps to safeguard Protected Personal Information in its possession. To the fullest extent permissible by law, Members hereby indemnify and hold harmless Sun International, its employees, and agents against any liability, damages and/or legal action whatsoever and howsoever arising, including negligence on the part of Sun International, its employees, or agents and Sun International shall not accept liability for any damages or any type of loss suffered by Members when using MVG and its associated benefits.

7. GENERAL (BUT STILL IMPORTANT) INFORMATION

7.1. Any Benefits provided by third-party programme partners or other participating partners to Members may be, subject to further terms and conditions and in that event, shall apply in addition to MVG terms and conditions.

7.2. Members accept that it is possible for errors or system malfunctions to occur. In such instances, Sun International reserves the right to adjust or revoke discounts applied, Loyalty Points, Benefits or Tier Credits accrued by Members.

7.3. Sun International reserves the right to terminate any Membership of any Member who contravenes these terms and conditions or whose conduct, when exercising any Benefit or using any of Sun International's facilities, is deemed at its sole discretion to be undesirable, unlawful or in bad taste. In addition, Sun International reserves the right to unilaterally use Leisure Points towards settlement of any amount owed by a Member for the use of any Sun International facility or offering.

7.4. Sun International reserves the right to, among other rights, amend or withdraw Tier Status, these terms and conditions, Benefits, Loyalty Points, Tier Credits, or any of the criteria used to calculate same, participating entities and third-party programme partners in its sole discretion and without prior notice or consultation with Members.

7.5. In addition, Sun International reserves the right to cancel MVG at any time by giving reasonable notice to Members.

7.6. If Sun International affords any indulgence in or deviation of these terms and conditions in favour of any Member, such indulgence or deviation shall not be construed as a waiver of these terms and conditions or any of its rights.

7.7. Each term and condition contained herein are severable from each other. If any term or condition or part thereof is unenforceable in law, then that term or condition or part thereof shall be severed from these terms and conditions, and the surviving terms and conditions shall remain in force.
