Flamingo’s second Mandela Day Sandwich Run a success
It was a day of tremendous goodwill and cheer as volunteers from Flamingo and several other caring companies rallied in support of the second annual Flamingo Sandwich Run to commemorate Mandela Day on 18 July 2017.
Amongst the volunteers who rose to the challenge to make as many sandwiches as possible in a hour were representatives from Swiftprint, Legal Wise, the Electoral Commission of South Africa, De Beers, Medi Clinic, Run Walk for Life, AIDA, ER24, Scorp Security, South African Police Services, YUU Clean and Northern Cape Cricket Union.
At last’s year’s Sandwich Run 4121 sandwiches were made in an hour and this year, that target was toppled with some 6,189 sandwiches prepared. These were distributed in the communities of Roodepan and Greenpoint in partnership with non-profit organization, Hunger and Thirst.
The Flamingo Casino Sandwich Run coincides with International Mandela Day in celebration of the late Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
“We are delighted by the wonderful response to our second annual Flamingo Sandwich Run. It was heartening to see representatives from caring companies come together in the spirit of Nelson Mandela to serve their community. We thank everyone who helped prepare sandwiches and make this year’s event such a success,” says Lameez Suliman, the PR and Promotions Manager at Flamingo Casino.
