The Eden School in Worcester received over R19 000 in stationery to help develop the abilities of learners.
Golden Valley Casino and Lodge in Worcester has donated over R19 000 in much-needed stationery supplies to Eden School in the Hex Park area of the Boland town.
The special-needs school caters for children with severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and behavioural problems.
Some 189 youngsters each received a stationery pack consisting of pencils, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, glue, A5 hardcover and 72-page A4 books. Other supplies included crayons, colouring-in pencils, along with markers, reams of white and coloured paper, coloured pens, powdered paint in multiple colours, paintbrushes, play-dough buckets, shell-shaped plastic bathtubs and calculators.
Heartwarming scenes
Golden Valley GM Melanie Durant said: “We were approached by a teacher at the school who asked for our assistance as most of the parents of these children cannot afford to pay school fees, let alone buy stationery. It was heartwarming to see how excited the children were when we delivered the supplies.”
Each child in the school has their own special needs to be considered. The school aims to develop each child’s capabilities to the full, and to ensure that they can participate socially and be independent.
Principal Rudolph Johannes said: “Thank you to the management and staff of Golden Valley. We are deeply appreciative of this donation. Special-needs teachers require many more tools. This will go a long way towards developing the abilities of these children.”
The school has served the community of Worcester and surrounding areas for over 45 years.
