The Sanlam Cancer Challenge, South African golf’s greatest contribution to the fight against cancer, celebrates a 25-year partnership with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the country’s passionate amateur golfers this year.
One of the longest running partnerships in the history of South African sport annually brings together roughly 35 000 amateur golfers from around the country who help to raise millions for cancer research and treatment.
Club golfers around South Africa play in their various Club Competitions to raise money and attempt to qualify for the Regional Finals, which are played from July to August. The respective winners here in the A, B and C Divisions then progress to the National Finals played on 9-10 October on the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Club courses at Sun City.
Ernie Els is a proud Champion of Hope for the tournament and traditionally treats the national winners to a unique Ernie Els Experience in which they play a round of golf at Oubaai Golf Estate, enjoy an exclusive tour of the Ernie Els wine farm, and have a meal at The Big Easy Restaurant in Stellenbosch.
“We are very proud of the partnership we have had with CANSA and the obvious difference this has made in the ongoing battle against this disease,” said Sanlam Sponsorship Manager Gary van Loggerenberg.
“From that first competition 25 years ago to what we have today, every South African golfer who has supported this event can also be extremely proud of the role he or she has played to ensure its success and make a real difference.”
