"Doep is nie dood nie" features the formidable body of songs and other texts written by the late Koos du Plessis who is regarded by many as the Bob Dylan of Afrikaans music. Koos tragically died at a relatively young age thirty two years ago, but has left behind a wealth of wisdom in his impressive oeuvre of songs and other writings. Afrikaans cabaret stalwart Jannie du Toit's stage production emphasizes how much alive and relevant Koos Doep'stake on life and his remarkable creative output remains three decades later. Jannie hereby continues his efforts to perpetuate the work of his late friend by introducing it to a new generation. The program is also intended as a re-appreciation of some artistic endeavour of the highest levelin light Afrikaans music.Du Toit further morerealizes his dream to do aonemanshow of Koos du Plessis' work. The production is generously supported by Clover South-Africa and the Nelspruit Innibos Arts Festival. Carl Theunissen, former journalist, friend and colleague of Koos du Plessis, compiled and directed the show, and whiz kid Clinton Zerf is the arranger and musical director. Susan Mouton, principal cellist of the Johannesburg Philharmonic and pianist Coenraad Rall with Jannie on guitar form the musical ensemble.
After an opening season at the Oudtshoorn Arts Festival during March 2014, the itinerary for DOEP IS NIE DOOD NIE includes performances at Nelspruit, Potch and Grahamstown Festivals as well as performances country wide.
